What are the Genuine Temporary Entrant Requirements?

The Australian Education System has so much to offer for students – local and international students. One of the strengths of the education in Australia is its cultural diversity, the students are given the chance to interact and learn with classmates and friends from different countries.

But in order to study in Australia, one must meet the requirements. One of the requirements is called the Genuine Temporary Entrant or GTE Requirement. This was implemented on year 2011 and is applied to all types of Australian student visa.

What is a Genuine Temporary Entrant or GTE?

A GTE is an invitation for students who have genuine intentions to study in Australia, have excellent English speaking and writing skills, and who have a clear vision of their future in Australia. Apart from having a genuine intention to stay in Australia, the department considers the following as part of GTE Requirement: (Assessment of Genuineness)

  • Circumstances in the applicant’s home country
  • The applicant’s potential circumstances in Australia
  • The applicant’s immigration history
  • The value of the course to the applicant’s future
  • Any other matter relevant to the applicants intention to stay temporarily

Supporting documents that should be submitted depend on which of the following student visas you have applied for. The department may ask for more requirements. The visa approval will solely depend on the submitted documents.

The GTE, however, does not guarantee an applicant a permanent work after studying in Australia. The purpose of the GTE is only for Australian student visas – not applicable for other Australian Visas.
