Australian Senate to Place Protection Clause in Skilled Workers Visa Scheme

protection clause for skilled workers

Senator Nick Xenophon, who initiated the Senate probe, said the inquiry would pave the way for a clear and fair investigation into the issue as he asked colleagues for sobriety and calmness during the debate. The senator also said that the inquiry will provide them with a clear picture of what needs to be done and how to solve the problem on the said visa scheme. He added that the lack of job training for people who need employment must be addressed immediately.

The government has vowed to implement stricter measures on the skilled workers visa programs following reports that some employers were bringing in migrant workers and giving them lower wages while many Australian workers were being bypassed for jobs.

The government however assured both local and foreign workers that they will be protected against exploitation and abuses once the changes in the visa are put in place. Many Australian businessmen will be affected by the changes, mostly those in the IT and medical sectors.
